Allen Kent

Allen Kent (born October 24, 1921 in New York City , † May 1, 2014 in Scott Township , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania ) was Professor of Information Technology at the University of Pittsburgh and author of numerous specialist books .

history

Kent studied chemistry at City College of New York before being drafted into military service during World War II. After the war he was one of the pioneers in the field of information retrieval and did research first at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , from 1955 at the Case Western Reserve University . In 1963 he moved to the University of Pittsburgh, where he founded the Faculty of Information Technology in 1970.

In 1992, Kent retired from the university and moved to Florida, but returned to Pittsburgh in 2010, where he died in 2014.
