history

As early as the 1980s, the Deutsche Bundesbahn had an express train called the Allgäu Express.

The alex was from inception date of 14 December 2003 initially a joint venture between the state railway and SBB GmbH . When the timetable changed on December 9, 2007, the Länderbahn took over the operation of the alex on its own. Since trains now also ran between Munich, Regensburg and Hof or Prague under the name alex , the abbreviation alex now stood for Arriva-Länderbahn-Express . As a result, a new silver-turquoise color scheme was introduced, which has replaced the original white paintwork with geometric elements in blue and red. Since 2010, the train under the leadership of the new owner's Netinera only alex , the name Arriva Provincial Railroad Express accounted for.

In the timetables of Deutsche Bahn, the abbreviation ALX was used for the trains of the Allgäu-Express . Since December 2007 this abbreviation has been used for the alex trains on all routes.

Routes

Lines of the alex

The alex replaced sections of the previously discontinued Dresden - Hof (Saale) - Regensburg - Munich - Oberstdorf interregional line . The Alex ran between Munich and Oberstdorf via Kaufering , Buchloe , Kaufbeuren and Kempten (Allgäu) . Since the timetable change on December 9, 2007, the trains in Immenstadt have been split; one part drove to Oberstdorf, the other to Lindau .

The trains ran every two hours. In the intervening hour , however, Deutsche Bahn provided modern regional express trains so that the route runs every hour. DB Regio and alex had formed a tariff and sales community, so passengers could freely choose between the two companies which train they wanted to use. Tickets for local transport and the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) were recognized. The Bayern ticket was also valid.

Vehicle material

The rolling stock consisted of the former Intercity compartment cars Avmz 111 (with alex the designation Am) and Bomz 236 (with alex the designation Bm) of the Deutsche Bahn . Each train carried an alex-treff car (type BRDpm at alex ) that was converted from a Bomz 236 . This now had a counter where small meals and drinks as well as tickets were sold and information could be obtained, an open plan 2nd class and a bicycle area. In addition, two type Amz 210 cars of the Deutsche Reichsbahn were repainted in the alex color scheme, downgraded to second class and called Bomz. The ER 20 diesel-electric locomotives were rented from Dispolok . Since December 2007, the twelve ER 20 from Angel Trains with the series numbers 223 061 to 223 072 and in the new color scheme turquoise-silver have been in use, the previously used ER 20 were returned.
