Allgäu Tower
The Allgäu Tower (until 2012/13: central building ) with the my Parkhotel Kempten is a modern building complex in the inner city of Kempten (Allgäu) . The complex originally built in the 1970s was renovated in two stages.
location
The building in front of the fortifications of the historical imperial city of Kempten is in the inner corner of Bahnhof , Beethoven and Kellerstrasse. On the other side of the street is the Künstlerhaus and the Parktheater disco to the north , the so-called Illerkauf to the east, and the former Quelle-Haus (now the Müller drugstore ) to the north-east . To the west, the disused brewery site extends from the Allgäu brewery with the demolished brewhouse . To the south extends a two-part house complex by Mode Reischmann with a parking garage.
Until its renovation in 2012/13 with the Freudenberg underpass from 1965, the central building was also equipped with shops underground. The “Bauerntanzkeller” bar was also located there.
history
The central building of the German Real Estate Investing Company was built in 1972. In the same decade, the architecture of building construction was criticized as too tall and disruptive. In the middle of the 90s of the same century the central building was partially rebuilt. The taller building was converted into the Parkhotel Kempten : the previous colorful facade with balconies in the style of the 1970s was replaced by smooth, turquoise-reflecting glass architecture . The four-star hotel was opened in 1997 in the modernized high-rise building.
The significantly flatter building in front of the high main building on Bahnhofstrasse was built as a shopping center. In the late summer of 2011, this part was almost completely removed and replaced in 2012 by a new building with the same use. The remaining old part was completely renovated. The entire project cost 22 million euros. During the new building construction workers came across quarry stone masonry, which the city archeology ascribed as a retaining wall of a ramp to the Fischertor.
description
The main building on a rectangular floor plan called the Park Hotel with 13 floors and a glass facade has a glass external elevator in the northeast corner, which only goes up to the Skylounge restaurant on the last floor. The upper end of the outside elevator is marked by four high peaks. Inside the building, two indoor elevators go to all floors.
The lower part of the building is three or four stories high, each with a different height. The white outer facade has large shop windows and protruding facade parts.
