The General Vocational School Zurich (ABZ) is a vocational school of the Canton of Zurich in Zurich . With around 2,400 students, it is one of the larger vocational schools in the Canton of Zurich.

history

The Sihlquai 87 school wing is part of a larger facility, which also includes the museum wing at Exhibition Street 60. It was placed under monument protection in 1994 . The buildings will be renovated from 2015 to the beginning of 2017. The trade school with arts and crafts museum of the City of Zurich, built by Steger & Egender from 1930 to 1933, is the first public building complex in Zurich to be built according to the principles of " New Building ". The entire facility was placed under monument protection in 1994.

Around 110 teachers teach around 2400 learners from 17 professions at the ABZ. When it comes to the profession of cook, the ABZ has the most apprentices from all vocational schools in Switzerland. Professions that are taught at the ABZ:

School types

In addition to the conventional school form, in which the learners attend the vocational school one or two days a week, the ABZ offers so-called weekly block lessons (WBU) for the profession of cook. In this model, the learners are instructed approximately once a month for one week. In addition to the three to four-year basic vocational training courses with an EFZ degree (EFZ: federal certificate of proficiency ), the Zurich General Vocational School also offers professions that last two years and lead to a federal professional certificate (EBA). At the tertiary level , the ABZ is one of a total of three providers in Switzerland that is allowed to train the higher professional examination (HFP) scientific laboratory technician. The course participants of this advanced technical examination attend a total of 20 different modules on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for six semesters.
