The Association of gardeners and nursery worker was an employee organization of gardeners and gardening - workers of the German Reich and one of the predecessor organizations of the trade union public services, transport and traffic (OTV).

history

In the course of industrialization in the 19th century, a rapidly growing number of horticultural businesses emerged , from which both employers and workers' organizations were formed in quick succession . During the founding of the German Empire in 1872, the first German workers' association of its kind, initially known as the German Gardeners Association , emerged from which the General German Gardeners Association was formed in 1890 .

In the meantime, the Central Association of German Gardeners , also known as the Central Association of Gardeners , was founded in parallel in 1889 , from which the German Gardeners Association soon emerged as the second workers' organization for gardeners in Germany.

In 1904 the two organizations merged, which from 1919 acted under the name Association of Gardeners and Horticultural Workers. In 1930 this association merged with the three other organizations Deutscher Verkehrsbund , the Association of Community and State Workers and the Association of German Professional Firemen to form the General Association of Workers in Public Enterprises and the Movement of People and Goods , a forerunner organization of the ÖTV.

The organization's association gazette, which was initially published as a technical training gazette and gradually assumed the character of a union, was the Allgemeine Deutsche Gärtner-Zeitung , which appeared in 39 volumes from 1891 to 1933 .
