history

Allianz House

At the western corner of Am Wall / Herdentor / Sögestraße, the first development in the 18th century was followed by a three-story new building from 1880 as a commercial building based on plans by Heinrich Müller in the style of the historicizing Wilhelminian era . The Freemason Lodge Friedrich Wilhelm resided here , which was dissolved by the National Socialists around 1933. The house was destroyed in the war around 1944.

From 1950 to 1951, according to plans by Heinz Logemann, a four-story new building with a hipped roof in the style of functional post-war architecture with arcades towards the wall and the Herdentor. "The building appears to be classically traditional," quotes the Weser-Kurier . The client was Allianz-Versicherung AG . The ceiling of the arcades on the west side is decorated with a fresco with cranes by Felix Uhlig. The sixth floor is pleasantly set apart from the structure thanks to its larger glazing.

In addition to Allianz, there were six other tenants in the building. The Wilkens und Danger jeweler was originally located on the ground floor and the Hatke curtain and carpet store still had showrooms on the first floor . In the 1960s the building was increased by two storeys and the main entrance was moved to the street Am Wall.

Today, Allianz Versicherung still has its branch in Bremen, and swb AG (formerly Stadtwerke Bremen) with its customer center has been located here since 1985 . The Energiecafé was located on the ground floor for a few years . Furthermore, lawyers and service providers are in the house as tenants.

Monument protection

The building was placed under monument protection in 1980 as a Bremen cultural monument.
