Silke Hellwig (* 1963 ) is a German journalist and editor-in-chief of the Weser Kurier .

Life

On September 15, 2011 Silke Hellwig became editor-in-chief of the daily newspapers of the Bremer Tageszeitungen AG (Btag): Weser Kurier, Bremer Nachrichten and Verdener Nachrichten .

Hellwig comes from Hessen and completed an internship at the Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine in Kassel. Before working as editor-in-chief, she worked for the Weser-Kurier, but also for Die Zeit and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . For many years she worked in various positions at Radio Bremen : in 2002 she started working for the regional magazine buten un inner and focused on Bremen state politics. This was followed by employment as head of the service in the TV News division . After tensions arose between Hellwig and her editors in the editorial office, a mediation process was initiated. Silke Hellwig later left the editorial team. In 2010 she moved to the program directorate. As an editor, she was responsible for the Radio Bremen project in the school .

She has been editor-in-chief of Weser Kurier since September 2011, replacing Lars Haider and thus becoming the only woman in northern Germany at the time who managed a large newspaper. From media circles, her appointment was also seen against the background of the desired cross-media orientation of the publisher's newspapers. At the turn of the year 2013/14, the editor-in-chief , who was controversial because of her management style, was "largely disempowered", as the journalist wrote: The board of directors had put a second, acting boss at her side - "or better: put in front of her nose", namely Peter Bauer . He took on responsibility under press law and oversaw day-to-day business. Hellwig should “mainly devote himself to journalistic tasks”, as the Btag announced. On January 15, 2015 Moritz Döbler succeeded editor-in-chief Peter Bauer.
