Allianz (artist group)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The allianz was founded in 1937 as an association of modern Swiss artists by Richard Paul Lohse and Leo Leuppi . Leuppi was president of the allianz until 1954.

The artist group was based on the Zurich School of Concrete , inspired by Max Bill , but placed greater emphasis on colors than their artist colleagues, who were committed to constructivism . The members of the alliance mainly devoted themselves to concrete and constructive art, but representatives of surrealism and late cubism were also active in the group and their works were presented in the group exhibitions.

The first group exhibition New Art in Switzerland took place in 1938 in the Kunsthalle Basel , the last in 1954 in the Helmhaus in Zurich.

In 1940 the group of artists published the Almanac of New Art in Switzerland with reproductions of the members and works by Paul Klee , Le Corbusier and Kurt Seligmann . The Allmanach contained texts by Bill, Leuppi, Le Corbusier, Seligmann, Sigfried Giedion and others.
