Almen Abdi (born October 21, 1986 in Prizren , Nebregoste, SFR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ) is a Swiss football player . He is the son of a machinist. Together with his family, he emigrated to Switzerland in Zurich at the end of the 1980s .
Career
society
The offensive midfielder began his career in the youth department of FC Zurich . After three regular players in midfield moved abroad in the summer of 2007, he earned a regular place in the first team of the city of Zurich club. In the 2008/09 season he was the second best goalscorer of the season with 19 goals and won his third championship with the Zurich team. In the following season he was banished to the bank after a failed transfer in September 2009. After he still had no match experience, he moved to the then French Ligue 1 club Le Mans UC during the winter break of 2009/10 .
In the summer of 2010 Abdi moved to Udinese Calcio in northern Italy , where he played a total of 42 games in two seasons, including 27 part-time appearances. In 2012 he was loaned to the second highest English league at Watford, where he became a regular with FC Zurich for the first time since the 2008/09 championship season, scoring 12 goals and giving 9 assists. He became a crowd favorite and was also voted Player of the Season at Watford FC at the end of the season . In the summer of 2013 he signed a three-year contract. In the 2013/14 season, Abdi missed most of the season due to a heel injury ( plantar fasciitis , an inflammation of the plantar fasciitis ).
On August 30, 2014 Abdi scored for the first time two goals in a league game for Watford FC; in the 4-2 draw against Huddersfield Town , he also prepared another goal.
In the 14/15 season, the Swiss with Kosovar roots rose to the Premier League.
National team
Abdi was appointed to the national team by Ottmar Hitzfeld on August 6, 2008 , where he made his debut against Cyprus on August 20 and provided two assists in the 4-1 win. He played six games for the Swiss national team.
