Almut Arneth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Almut Arneth is a German ecosystem researcher . She is a professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and worked on the special report on climate change and land systems of the IPCC IPCC with.

Life

Arneth graduated from the University of Bayreuth with a degree in ecophysiology in 1995 . In 1998 she received her PhD in environmental physics from Lincoln University in New Zealand. From 1998 to 2004 she continued her scientific career at Landcare Research in New Zealand, the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and from 2004 to 2012 at the University of Lund , from 2011 there as a professor. Since 2012 she has held the Helmholtz Professorship at the Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and heads the Department for Interactions between Biosphere and Atmosphere and the Interactions between Plants and Atmosphere Working Group at KIT Alpin Campus in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

Act

Arneth's work deals with the interactions between the biosphere and the earth's atmosphere , the reactions of terrestrial biogeochemical cycles to climate change , changing atmospheric composition and land use changes, as well as process-based modeling of global vegetation dynamics and the exchange of trace gases between the surface and the atmosphere.

Arneth is one of the authors of the 2019 special report on climate change and land systems by the IPCC. According to Arneth, the conclusion of this study is "that we as the entire world population are currently not using the basis of life sustainably, but rather destroying it".
