Aloha Classic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aloha Classic is an annual windsurf regatta in Hoʻokipa Beach Park on the Hawaiian island of Maui , which often has the status of a Windsurf World Cup and is an event of the International Windsurfing Tour (IWT).

Ho'okipa on Maui is one of the best surf spots in the world and the Aloha Classic is one of the most renowned competitions in the wave riding discipline . It takes place in a period of two weeks on 5 consecutive days at the end of October. The start is based on the weather at the time with the best waves on Maui.

Up to the year 2000 the Aloha Classic was a Grand Slam in which all disciplines, wave, slalom and course races, were held. Later on there was a lack of sponsors and thus the financial means, so that the event could not achieve the status of a World Cup, no competitions were held for women, or the Aloha Classic could not take place at all.

The wave competition of the American Windsurfing Tour (AWT, the predecessor of the IWT) took place for a few years. The winners (male / female) have qualified for the local starting places of the following PWA Windsurf World Cup .
