The Muratlı Dam ( Muratlı Barajı in Turkish ) is located on the Çoruh River . It is located in the northeastern Turkish province of Artvin, right on the border with Georgia .
The Muratlı Dam was built on behalf of the state water authority DSİ in the years 1999-2005 as a stone embankment dam with concrete waterproofing on the water side. The dam is used for power generation and flood protection . The name of the dam is derived from the town of Muratlı below the dam . The dam is 44 m high (above the valley floor) and has a volume of 1.981 million m³. The associated reservoir has a water surface of 4.1 km² and a storage volume of 74.8 million m³. The Muratlı Dam hydropower plant has two 57.5 MW Francis turbines . The standard work capacity is 444 GWh per year. The Borçka dam is located 17 km upstream near the town of Borçka .
