Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer

Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer (born December 22, 1831 in Vienna ; † January 15, 1897 there ) was an Austrian entomologist . He was a curator at the Natural History Museum in Vienna , where he was involved in the butterfly collection. His main interests were butterflies and hymenoptera (Hymenoptera).

In 1869 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Some butterflies and insects are named after him. His successor in Vienna was Hans Rebel .

He was assisted by the passionate collector Josef Mann (1804–1889), who kept supplying the museum with his collections. Mann himself described many species of butterflies and was particularly specialized in small butterflies ( Microlepidoptera ).

Rogenhofer was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
