Alois M. Schader (born July 16, 1928 ) is a German civil engineer and founder .

Life

Alois M. Schader studied civil engineering at the TH Darmstadt. From 1953 to 1993 he worked as a freelance consultant civil engineer. In the course of the housing shortage in the post-war years, Schader advised non-profit housing associations in particular on social housing. As the leader of interdisciplinary planning teams, he achieved significant cost savings for his clients on their major projects. As early as the early 1980s, Schader was able to identify systematic deficiencies in the residential construction programs he oversees. The need for new forms of household and the tendency towards smaller households were noticed by the social sciences, but not by those responsible for the housing programs. Schader decided to set up a non-profit foundation that should bring together social scientists and practitioners. The idea resulted in the establishment of the Schader Foundation in 1988 . He has transferred his private assets to the foundation.

The foundation's funding focus is on the effects of social change on life in urban societies. The purpose of the foundation is achieved in particular through the purposeful, non-profit use of the Schader Forum in Darmstadt with events, conferences, meetings and exhibitions. Since 1993, the Schader Foundation has awarded the Schader Prize to social scientists who have made a contribution to solving current social problems due to their scientific work and their commitment to practice.
