Alois Schöpf
Alois Schöpf (born October 5, 1950 in Lans near Innsbruck) is an Austrian writer , playwright, librettist, journalist , columnist and concert organizer. He is the founder and artistic director of the Innsbruck promenade concerts and was conductor of different band.
Life
Schöpf, the son of an innkeeper from Lans near Innsbruck, graduated from the Stella Matutina Jesuit high school in Feldkirch / Vorarlberg in 1969. He first went to Vienna and made his debut as a writer in 1973 with the novel "Ritter, Tod und Teufel", for which he received the prize of the Molden Roman Competition. From 1973 to 1976 Schöpf was editor of Austrian television and supervised programs such as “Lumière's Children”, “Planquadrat”, “A real Viennese does not go under” or “Stories from Austria”.
In 1976 Schöpf returned to Tyrol and has since lived as a freelance writer, journalist and organizer in Lans near Innsbruck, is married and has a grown son.
As a writer, Schöpf wrote numerous novels, non-fiction and children's books. He is one of Austria's leading essayists and, with “Wenn Dichter haben”, sharply criticized the corruption in the literary world. In his work “Kultiviert Dieben”, also published by Limbus, he analyzes the inability of politics to create human rights-compliant laws in the sense of a self-determined end of life against the resistance of religions, especially the Catholic Church.
As a journalist, Alois Schöpf has been writing weekly columns since 1984, first in the daily newspaper "Kurier", then on ORF radio and in the Tyrolean district newspapers. Since 1991 Schöpf has published a much-read column every Saturday in the “Tiroler Tageszeitung”. In addition, Schöpf also writes columns on the latest trends in tourism development for the tourism newspaper “Saison Tirol”. Schöpf contributed his extensive musical knowledge as a columnist in the international wind magazine “Clarino” under the title “Beim Schöpf gepackt”.
As a playwright, he wrote radio plays and plays, including the provincial classic "Heimatzauber". He also designed Austria's appearance at the World Exhibition 2000 in Hanover with 500 musicians and wrote the libretto for the opera “Die Sennenpuppe” by Ernst Ludwig Leitner and the libretto for “Hofer's Night”, an opera for the Tyrolean State Theater and the composer Florian Bramböck which deals with the Tyrolean national hero Andreas Hofer . Together with Ernst Ludwig Leitner, Schöpf then worked on the opera “The Wedding” on behalf of the Tyrolean Festival Erl, which was premiered by Gustav Kuhn in July 2010.
In 1994, Alois Schöpf founded the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts with some musicians with the support of the Innsbruck Tourist Office and the City of Innsbruck under Hilde Zach, which he heads as artistic director. The concert series is intended to follow the tradition of old Austrian military and wind music in a contemporary form, to make the works of high art known to a broad audience in evening serenades. The Innsbruck Promenade Concerts have become one of the most popular cultural events in summer in Tyrol and one of the most important events for wind music in Europe.
Schöpf directed the highest level orchestra “Stadtmusikkapelle Innsbruck-Saggen” for 14 years, after which he was conductor of the Postmusik Innsbruck and the Patsch band, a small village south of Innsbruck, for 3 years. He recorded 5 CDs with the three orchestras.
