Alope (daughter of Kerkyon)
Alope ( Greek Ἀλόπη ) is a figure from Greek mythology .
She was the daughter of Kerkyon and, unbeknownst to her father, gave birth to Poseidon , Hippothoon , whom she abandoned. The hippothoon, fed by a mare with milk and found by shepherds, was brought to Kerkyon, who knew from the boy's royal clothes that Alope was his mother. Kerkyon had her locked up and killed, and after Kerkyon's death, Poseidon turned her into a spring.
