Alphons (Alonso) Rodriguez (* around 1526 in Valladolid , Spain ; † February 21, 1616 in Seville ) was a Spanish Catholic priest , Jesuit , and ascetic writer. He is sometimes confused with Alphonsus Rodriguez (1532–1617), a lay brother of the Society of Jesus.

Life

Alphons Rodriguez studied philosophy at the University of Salamanca , entered the Society of Jesus in 1545 and, after completing his studies and being ordained a priest, lectured moral theology in Monterey for twelve years . He was novice master for another twelve years and presided over the colleges of Monterey and Montilla as rector for the following seventeen years . Then he spent eleven years spiritual in Córdoba and spent the last years of his life in Seville, where he died in old age with a reputation for holiness .
