Alphonse Adolph Burnand junior (born January 21, 1896 in Leadville , † December 4, 1981 in Borrego Springs ) was an American sailor .

Alphonse Burnand, of the California Yacht Club sailed, was in 1932 in Los Angeles at the Olympic Games in the 8-meter class Olympic champion . He was a crew member of the boat Angelita , led by skipper Owen Churchill , which won all four races, taking first place ahead of the only other boat, the Santa Maria from Canada. In addition to Burnand and Churchill, the other crew members Pierpont Davis , Karl Dorsey , John Biby , Thomas Webster , William Cooper ,Robert Sutton , John Huettner , Alan Morgan , Richard Moore and Kenneth Carey won the gold medal.

Burnand attended Stanford University like Owen Churchill and graduated in 1914. He then went into business for himself as an investment broker. Burnand and Churchill were close friends and not only often sailed together, but also worked together as fruit and vegetable traders in the San Joaquin Valley . In Borrego Springs Burnand bought large areas of arable land, which he farmed then and tourism opened up.
