Alphonse François
Alphonse François (born August 25, 1814 in Paris , † July 7, 1888 in Paris) was a French engraver .
François trained with his older brother, Charles-Remy-Jules François († 1861), under Louis Pierre Henriquel-Dupont . With great delicacy and elegance, he pricked a multitude of leaves, partly after newer French painters, partly after older Italians. Its main leaves include:
- the passage of Bonaparte over the Alps
- Marie Antoinette before the Revolutionary Tribunal
- the young Giovanni Pico della Mirandola , whom his mother teaches to read, after Paul Delaroche
- the vision of Ezekiel after Raphael
- the temptation of Christ
- Mignon and her father
- Mignon in the church, after Ary Scheffer
- the wife of King Kandaules to Gérôme
- the coronation of the Virgin Mary from the Oratory of San Jacopo Maggiore in Fiesole . For this latter engraving he received the Medal of Honor in 1867.
In 1857 he became an officer of the Legion of Honor and in 1873 a member of the Institut de France .
