Louis Pierre Henriquel-Dupont (born June 13, 1797 in Paris , † January 20, 1892 there ) was a French engraver .

Life

In 1812 Henriquel-Dupont became a pupil of the painter Pierre Narcisse Guérin at the age of 15 . With the support of his teacher, Henriquel-Dupont turned to engraving around 1815 . He was trained in this and was able to debut in 1818 with his own works.

Henri Laurent had noticed him and engaged Henriquel-Dupont for his work Le Musée royal . This year Henriquel-Dupont was able to participate in the Paris Salon of the Académie Française with an engraving . His portrait of a young woman with a child (based on Anthony van Dyck ) was awarded a medal.

Between 1843 and 1853, Henriquel-Dupont created Hémicycle after Paul Delaroche in the Palace of Fine Arts. In 1855 he was able to exhibit eight works in the Louvre , including The Madonna and Child based on a drawing by Raphael .

In 1849 Henriquel-Dupont became a member of the Académie Française, and in 1863 he was appointed “o. Prof. der Kupferstechkunst ”at the École des Beaux-Arts . From 1868 Henriquel-Dupont acted as chairman of the French Society for Copper Engraving, of which he was a long-time member. In 1831 he became a knight of the Legion of Honor, an officer in 1855 and finally commander of this order in 1876. On May 31, 1867 Henriquel-Dupont was accepted as a foreign member in the Prussian order Pour le Merite for science and the arts .
