Starting field at the Alpine Marathon Liechtenstein 2006

The Alpine Marathon Liechtenstein (official name LGT Alpin Marathon after the main sponsor, LGT Bank ) is Liechtenstein's only marathon and runs from Bendern to Malbun . Since 1,800 vertical meters uphill and 650 vertical meters downhill have to be overcome, it is a demanding mountain marathon . The marathon has been running since 2000 and the event is scheduled for June. In 2007 a half marathon PLUS over 25 km was added to the program.

Route

On the Silumer Höhe at kilometer 22 at the 2006 Alpine Marathon

The route of the alpine marathon leads through almost all of Liechtenstein, from Bendern in the Rhine Valley up to the mountain town of Malbun. The first flat kilometers are first on the road towards Schaan . After about 1.5 km you turn right towards the Rhine and after half a kilometer you reach the Rhine dam, which you follow to the capital Vaduz at km 10.

After Vaduz, the route climbs about 1100 meters in altitude over the next eleven kilometers to Silumer Höhe. On the Silumer Höhe at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, there is a wonderful view of the Rhine valley, which is 1,000 meters below.

For the next three kilometers, it goes down to Steg in the Samina valley, almost 300 meters in altitude. Behind Steg, at 25.5 km at a height of 1300 m, is the goal of the Half Marathon PLUS. Marathon runners who finish their run here are also included in this rating. It now goes on a wavy route into the Valorschtal .

Between kilometers 32 and 35 the route climbs steeply up to the 1780 m high Sass Fürkli. This is the highest point of the marathon. On the undulating route, Malbun is then circled before the runners reach the finish line of the marathon route.
