A mountain accident is a damaging event in the mountains in which people have been involved in an accident . Mostly these are emergencies involving hikers, climbers or skiers.
Most mountain accidents involve injuries
- from falls and broken bones ,
- due to sprains (e.g. when twisting the ankle or in dumps ),
- through fatigue or overexertion .
A mountain accident can also be caused by disorientation , heavy snowfall or storm , illness (e.g. altitude sickness , hypothermia , dehydration ), avalanches or falling rocks.
Common emergency calls are the alpine emergency signal (systematic SOS signs), but also signal rockets and, if necessary, radio messages .
After mountain accidents, various emergency and rescue services are active to search for, rescue or rescue people who have had an accident:
- Mountain rescue services with local and competent rescue workers as well as avalanche search dogs and mountain rescue vehicles
- Search and Rescue with avalanche search dogs and air rescue with ( rescue ) helicopters
- Alpine Einsatzgruppen of police
- Mountaineer of the Army
