The Alt-Uyghurische was the language which Qarluq call Turks, among other things, with the Oghusen together the second Göktürkenreich and finally the dynasty of Qarakhanid justified.

In terms of linguistic history, this language belongs to the language group of the Uighur languages , but already shows strong links to the Oghusian-West Turkish dialects ; it is therefore to be seen as a mixed language. The actual Uyghur language grew out of their dialects: Uyghur , which became the state language in the area of the later Uyghur Empire .

The actual Qarluq Uyghur , which became the state language of the Karakhanid Empire, can also be regarded as a sister language of Old Uyghur .

Chagatai , which from the early 1920s onwards was often referred to as "Old Uzbek" ( Turkestan ) or "Old Uyghur" ( Uyguristan ), is to be seen as the successor to both variants in the 15th century .
