The church Alt St. Remigius is the old Roman Catholic parish church of the local community Pronsfeld in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

history

The oldest parts of the old Pronsfeld parish church date from around 1300. The remainder of the bell tower is still preserved . This bell tower was attached to the single-nave hall church in the east as a so-called choir tower . In 1498 a new Gothic choir was added to the tower . The east wall was broken through in the lower tower area. In the 1730s the nave became dilapidated. In 1738 this was renovated and rebuilt in baroque forms. The church remained in this state until 1921. Since the New Parish Church was built in the lower village that year , the church was demolished except for the tower and the choir. At the end of the Second World War , the tower in particular was severely damaged by artillery fire, which ultimately led to the tower's partial collapse in 1948.

The choir and the east wall of the former bell tower are still preserved today.

Furnishing

In the remains of the old church there are two tombstones from 1604 and 1732, a tabernacle, an image of the Madonna of Stalingrad and a sandstone altar. The ribbed vault is also worth seeing . The old church furnishings have been in the new St. Remigius Church since the 1920s .
