The Church of St. Remigius is the Roman Catholic parish church of the Pronsfeld parish in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm ( Rhineland-Palatinate ).

history

In place of today's Remigius Church there was an Antonius chapel until 1921. This chapel was built in 1889. Since the old parish church had become too small, it was decided to expand the Antonius chapel and raise this enlarged chapel to the new parish church. In 1921, after the choir was removed, a domed crossing and a new choir designed by architect Eduard Endler in the neo-baroque style were added to the existing nave of the chapel. During the Second World War , the church was so damaged that parts of the vaults collapsed. These were replaced by a simple wooden ceiling after the war. In 1962 the free-standing bell tower was built.

Furnishing

There are two baroque altars in the church , which were moved from the old to the new church after 1921. Originally there was a third baroque altar in the church. However, this high altar was probably destroyed by the falling vault in World War II. The left side altar was set up in the choir and has served as a new high altar since the war. In addition to these altars, there is also a pulpit from 1623 and a richly decorated communion bench inside the church.
