The Old Bridge of Bariura ( Bengali বাড়িউড়া প্রাচীন পুল Bāṛiuṛā Prācīn Pul ) or Hatirpul ( Bengali হাতিরপুল Hātirpul ) is one of the old bridges in Sarail Upazila in the Brahmanbaria district , and is located 15 km north of Brahmanbaria .
It was built during the Mughal Empire in Bariura, near the Dhaka - Sylhet highway .
construction
The building, which was built on a brick, lime and concrete basis in the 16th century, connected Sarail and Shahbajpur .
history
Isha Khan established his first temporary capital in Sarail . It was part of the Samatata region of ancient Bengal . The Bariura Bridge was founded by Dewan Shahbaz Khan at the time of his Dewani in 1650. This bridge over the canal was built primarily for the elephant pass and was known as the "Elephant Bridge". The Dewans used to communicate through the elephants on this road and also rested near this bridge.
The Old Bridge of Bariura was abandoned for a long time and covered by the bushes. That changed thanks to the diversion of the river by the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to the south to save the bridge by building a modern bridge near the place.
The Bariura Old Bridge is now under the supervision of the Department of Archeology of Bangladesh.
