The industrial monument Alte Kachelofenfabrik in Neustrelitz is today a cultural and tourism center. The institution has been sponsored by the “basic culture factory - society for art and tourism mbh” since 1998; Co-partner is the "Association for Culture, Environment and Communication eV".

history

Commercial use

The building was constructed in several stages between 1852 and 1910. At the beginning, milk satellites (= molds for milk products) were made here; a pottery was soon added. In the 1870s, tiled stove production was finally started. The then tiled stove manufacturer Schulze received the title purveyor to the court of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . In 1940 the factory was sold to the engineer-businessman Kurt Conradt from Swinoujscie . It then served until 1945 as a production facility for the portable KuCo tiled stoves , as they had been registered as an invention by Kurt Conradt at the Reich Patent Office . Tiled stoves were still being manufactured until the end of 1969. After that, the building became the legal entity of the consumer cooperative , which housed its general administration here. After the consumer cooperative was liquidated , the old tiled stove factory was transferred back to the Conradt family in 1992 and has been used as a cultural center ever since.

Cultural (re) use

The beginnings of the socio-cultural center Alte Kachelofenfabrik can actually be found in Lich, Hesse . The Association for Culture and Communication eV (VfKK) was founded there in 1988 on the initiative of the arthouse cinema Kino Traumstern and BASIS-Filmverleihs from Berlin . The main aim was to promote film and cinema culture in rural areas. In addition, educational work on film culture should be integrated into a concept of socioculture ; So be interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, self-determined and self-organized.

In the period after the reunification, the idea of ​​starting such a project together in Neustrelitz arose through contacts between association members and cultural workers in the GDR. The association then moved to Neustrelitz and took over the sponsorship of the old tile stove factory. Initially, the VfKK took care of the basic security of the building envelope and the renovation of individual rooms within the building ensemble.

In 1992 Basis-Film Verleih founded a production and distribution company dedicated to German auteur films, its second branch in the walls of the old tiled stove factory. In 1998 the "basiskulturfabrik - society for art & tourism mbh" was founded in order to prepare the professional renovation of the entire building complex. The extensive construction work was completed in 2000. Since then, the industrial monument has housed a restaurant and wine bar (fabrik.kneipe), now also the fabrik.galerie all year round, as well as a cinema with two cinemas (fabrik.kino 1 & 2). The cinema is the regional representative of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Film Communication Association .

In 2001, eight holiday homes were built on the site and have been operated all year round according to ecological standards (fabrik.öko-hotel). In the fabrik.gästehaus, further accommodation options in the inexpensive segment were created until May 2014.

program

The cultural program of the Alte Kachelofenfabrik includes daily film screenings of international film art, regularly changing art exhibitions, (author) readings as well as cabaret and music events. In the context of workshop discussions, vernissages, workshops and seminars, the socio-cultural center is also involved in the areas of cultural mediation, youth work and environmental education.

With its award-winning art house cinemas, the ambitious art and culture program, its ecological accommodation and the restaurant that focuses on regional and ecological cuisine, the socio-cultural center of the Alte Kachelofenfabrik has meanwhile developed into a nationally recognized and multiple award-winning culture, gastronomy and hotel location.

Cooperations

Through the diverse activities, the cultural center has moved far into the Mecklenburg Lake District and takes up numerous impulses from the region on site. Over the years, such close forms of cooperation with numerous actors have developed; u. a. of Theater & Orchester GmbH (TOG) , the Kunsthaus Neustrelitz as well as associations and initiatives in the fields of culture, education and environmental protection. Since 2010 the cultural center Alte Kachelofenfabrik has been organizing the annual “Neustrelitz Nature Film Festival Mensch!” Together with the Müritz National Park . Nature!".

In 2013, on the initiative of the Basiskulturfabrik, the LOKAL.KOST project was launched - a marketing network for restaurateurs and food producers from the Mecklenburg Lake District .
