The Old Barracks is a historic fortress in Swakopmund in the region Erongo in Namibia . It was added to the Namibian National Heritage List on November 2, 1973 and is also featured on the coat of arms of the city of Swakopmund .
It was built in 1905 and 1906, at the time of German South West Africa , to accommodate the workers of the 2nd Imperial Railway Construction Company . They built the jetty . Then soldiers of the protection force were housed here. The building served as a school until 1993 and since then as a youth hostel .
The building consists of two wings 55 and 45.5 meters long. Two two-story towers can be found in the middle. The corners are marked by small towers.
