Old Post Office in Eppingen

The Alte Post house in Eppingen , a town in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , is a half-timbered house in Kraichgau that was built around 1588 . The building is protected as a cultural monument.

Building description

The house on the market square , at the corner of Brettener Strasse, is a large town house with its gable facing the square and thus helping to shape the overall impression of this central square. Two slightly protruding half-timbered floors rise above the massive ground floor, and above them a gable with two attics. The roof is slightly hipped over the tap bar . The right side of the eaves of the house leans against the neighboring house, which is also a half-timbered house.

While the left side of the eaves consists of simple half-timbering, the gable side, which is visible from afar, shows all the variants of the bracing forms that were common in the second half of the 16th century: the Franconian man , St. Andrew's crosses under the windows and grooved foot struts with eyes in the lower attic. The upper attic has ornamental shapes that are inserted into the parapet between the collar stands: St. Andrew's cross with curved rhombuses , vertical stems and parts of a circle with well-worn fish bladders and leaf shapes. The three fret stands are covered with a carving in the form of lichen.
