Erwin Huxhold

Erwin Huxhold (born December 9, 1914 in Breslau ; † June 25, 2005 in Bretten ) was a German architect , university professor and author of numerous publications on half-timbered construction in Kraichgau .

Life

After graduating from high school, Erwin Huxhold studied architecture at the Technical University in Breslau . In 1937 he had to interrupt his studies because of the two-year military service and the subsequent military service from 1939 to 1945. After his release from British captivity , he moved to Bretten, where his future wife, whom he had met during the war, lived. He continued his studies at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and graduated in 1947 with a degree in engineering. In 1954 he was at the same university for Doctor of Engineering PhD .

Initially, Erwin Huxhold worked as a freelance architect in Bretten. In 1962 he was appointed professor at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences , where he taught design and interior design. In 1980 he retired .

Since his studies, Erwin Huxhold has dealt with historical half-timbered buildings from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. In the Kraichgau he extensively researched the existing half-timbered buildings and published many publications on them. For over two decades he represented the preservation of monuments on the advisory board of the Kraichgau home association and organized the traveling exhibition The half-timbered houses in Kraichgau .

For his extensive work he was awarded the medal for services to the home of Baden-Württemberg on the occasion of the 1994 home days in Ettlingen .
