Old post office in Wimbern
The old post office is a listed secular building in Wimbern , a district of Wickede in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The building is a plastered house on the former trunk road between Arnsberg / Kassel and Iserlohn. It was built by Christoph Schlünder in 1821/1822 with horse stables and carriage shed for the Schlünder post office, which has existed since the 17th century . Construction took place at the same time as the junction to Paderborn (B7, B63). The eaves-standing building was built partly from half-timbered and partly from brick . It is covered with a club roof . Under the flat triangular gable is a pilaster portal framed with stone with an ornamented architrave . Behind the wide hallway with a staircase leading to the upper floor is the kitchen and a stove. The floor made of natural stone slabs is still preserved from the construction period. Sufficient storage space is available in the basement and in the attic. There are large outbuildings behind the house, including a coach house and the former horse stables.
Today a hotel with a restaurant is operated in the house.
