The Alte Tongrube nature reserve is located in the independent city of Zweibrücken in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The approximately 1.5 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1986 , extends on the north-western edge of the Zweibrücken district of Mörsbach . The state road L 465 runs not far to the west. The state border with Saarland runs about 500 meters to the northwest .
The purpose of protection is the preservation of the humid to alternately humid biotope as a location for wild plant species and their plant communities as well as a habitat for wild animal species whose population is threatened. The protection is also provided for scientific reasons.
