The approximately 4.80 m high tower is located 1.5 km southwest of Altenstädt , immediately west of the "Naumburg Path", at 346  m above sea level on a group of trees on the southeast end of a ridge about 2 m north of the core city of Naumburg. The state road L 3215 from Naumburg to Altenstädt runs past about 600 m to the east. The Bolkinhagen desert is about 400 m southwest.

The round tower has a diameter of approx. 3.50 m and is made of rubble stones. It is the only remaining one of five waiting towers that surround the city of Naumburg and were built in the 14th century.

Today a 18-sprossige steel lead conductor at the outside of the tower to the (not covered ) viewing platform. From there you have a wide and beautiful view of the core city of Naumburg and the surrounding area.

Immediately next to the tower is a resting place for hikers with two groups of tables on the Habichtswaldsteig premium hiking trail that passes here . Since 2011 there has also been a so-called “sky swing”, a monumental swing made of five oak trunks screwed together, two chain ropes and a plastic seat on the area set up as a “fairy tale rest area”.
