Old Jewish cemetery Velbert-Langenberg
The Langenberg Jewish cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in the Langenberg district of the city of Velbert in the Mettmann district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). He lies on the Eickeshagen.
history
Jews were already resident in Langenberg in the 17th century, in 1885 the community had 70 members, in 1910 33 and in 1932 only 12 members. The community belonging to the Elberfeld synagogue community was attached to Wuppertal-Elberfeld in 1932. From 1802 there was a synagogue of its own , in 1905 it could only be used on the high holidays, so that the Langenberg Jews then used the Hattingen synagogue. The building in Langenberg was sold in 1927 and demolished in the 1970s.
The still preserved cemetery on the Eickeshagen was acquired around 1800 and occupied from 1834 to 1931; 31 gravestones have been preserved here.
