history
The cemetery located in the area of the city of Ratingen today belonged to the historical place "Kettwig vor der Brücke" , which has belonged to Essen as a district since 1975 .
Jewish families first settled in Kettwig in the 18th century. The size of the small congregation was 36 in 1885 and 45 in 1932. A synagogue is mentioned around 1800; this was probably the building that served as a synagogue until it was destroyed in 1938.
The cemetery on Blomericher Weg is the older of the two burial places of the Kettwig Jewish community, it was used from 1786. Today the cemetery is fenced and accessible.
The younger Kettwig cemetery on Görscheider Weg was occupied from 1888 to 1945 (today part of Heiligenhaus ).
