The Alternative Bank Switzerland AG (ABS) based in Olten is a Swiss bank , which as a goal is not to maximize profit but to promote ecological and social has projects. Alternative Bank Schweiz AG was founded on October 29, 1990 in Olten. It emerged from circles of ecological, self-administered and development-political organizations and movements. It owes its establishment, among other things, to the preparatory work of the Bern Declaration (EvB).

In 1997, ABS opened an agency for French-speaking Switzerland in Lausanne , followed by an information office for Italian-speaking Switzerland in Bellinzona in 2005 , which has since been closed again. In 2010 , a counseling center was opened in Zurich , where a contact point had already existed since 2007.

Following the decision of the Swiss National Bank , negative interest rates to charge on current accounts of commercial banks, the ABS in October 2015 led the first bank to negative interest rates in the retail business one.

The bank is a member of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values .
