The old fort in Grootfontein in northern Namibia is a fort of the former protection force for German South West Africa . It was built by 25 men in 1896.
On March 21, 1975 the fort was added to the list of National Monuments in Namibia . The building is (as of March 2020) used as a privately run city museum Altes Fort Museum . Objects from the German colonial era as well as one of the largest mineral collections in the country are exhibited.
