The former town hall in Finsternthal is now a listed building .

history

The first mayor of the small village Finsternthal (a district of the community Weilrod in the Hochtaunus ) known by name was Johannes Lehr (1667-1714). During his term of office there was no town hall, the official business was dealt with in his private house. In 1790, under Mayor Johann Philipp Lehr (a descendant of the above), the community built today's building as a town hall, bakery and milk collection point.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the communities Finsternthal and other communities merged to form Weilnau on December 1, 1970 , before this community was merged with several previously independent communities by a state law to form Weilrod on August 1, 1972. The town hall lost its function. The milk collection point was also closed and the bakeries in the area took over the supply of baked goods. The house began to deteriorate. The community of Weilrod carried out extensive renovations. Today the old bakery is used again by the baking team and the conference room is used for various events.

building

The building at the intersection of the town's two main traffic axes is both part of the Alt-Finsternthal complex and an individual property under monument protection. Together with the Deutsches Hof , it forms the head side of the central square of the place created at the intersection. What is striking about the two-storey half-timbered building on a solid base is the square turret with a tent roof and weather vane. There is a mechanical tower clock on the Deutsche Hof side. The entrance is on the southern eaves side.
