Weilnau (municipality)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Weilnau was the name of a short-lived Hessian community that existed from December 1, 1970 to July 31, 1972, today part of the community of Weilrod .

A regional reform in Hesse has been discussed since the mid-1960s . The state government wanted the communities and districts to merge on a voluntary basis. Since this was not the case in many cases, there was also the threat of a state law regulation in the room. In most cases this threat was sufficient, but not in the high Taunus .

In order to avoid the threat of integration into a larger municipality as part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipalities of Altweilnau , Finsternthal , Mauloff , Neuweilnau and Riedelbach voluntarily joined forces on December 1, 1970 to form the new municipality of Weilnau. Kurt Böhmer became mayor of the community. However, the size of the newly created municipality was not enough for the state government. The municipality was dissolved by state law on August 1, 1972, and the localities became part of the new, larger municipality of Weilrod.

In June 1971 Kurt Böhmer (SPD) (1933–2012) was elected mayor. His official seat was the Riedelbach town hall.
