In the north, Altholzkrug has grown together with the Flensburg district of Weiche . The Burgweg on the northern edge is also part of Weiche. In the west, Altholzkrug is separated from Weding by the Neumünster – Flensburg railway line . The main street of the district is called Altholzkrug . history

Boundary stones have been set up on the outskirts of Flensburg since the Middle Ages. In 1601, an F and the year were carved into the Flensburg boundary stones for better recognition. From this time, boundary stones have been preserved on the northern edge of Altholzkrug, including the so-called Sandemannsstein. On the Flensburg map of Jürgensen from 1779, houses by Holzkrug were already drawn. Since the middle of the 19th century at the latest, the wooden jug apparently consisted of an old wooden jug (in the north) and a new wooden jug (in the south). In the same century, the north-south railway line, which still runs along the district, was built.

After the referendum in Schleswig in 1920, the German-Danish border was moved to the northern outskirts of Flensburg. In old wood pitcher customs houses still preserved for employees of the then emerged obvious duty . The houses in question still bear the address Zollhäuser to this day . The street Am Güterbahnhof (east of Altholzkrug by the railway line) still reminds us of the freight station at Flensburg-Weiche that existed at that time . In the course of time, various companies settled at Altholzkrug. An industrial area was created. The garden specialist Garten 2000 and the Carstensen forwarding company have been located there for a long time. Until 2008, Altholzkrug belonged to the municipality of Jarplund-Weding , which, however, merged with the municipality of Handewitt that year.
