Alticorpus ( Latin : "Altus" = high, "corpus" = body) is a genus of African cichlids that is endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. The five species of the genus live at greater depths of 18 to 150 meters above sandy soils or diatomaceous mud .

Depending on the species, Alticorpus species can be between 12.5 and 20 centimeters long. Her body is high back and clearly flattened on the sides. The head is relatively large, the mouth is deeply split. Characteristic of the genus are six to eight transverse strip on the body side, enlarged side line pores on the infra-orbital bones, two to four rows of scales on the "cheek" and a small ventral opposed, central projection on the lower jaw symphysis .
