Old Catholic Church

The Old Catholic Church in Rheinfelden is the oldest church in the city. Because of its location on the Adelberg estate, it is also known as the Adelberg Church . It belongs to the Old Catholic Church in Germany .

history

In 1820 the Protestant population held their first services in the knight's hall of Beuggen Castle . After the establishment of an evangelical diaspora community on September 11, 1898, this pastoral community acquired a building site near the Swiss border for a church from the power transmission works Rheinfelden (KWR) for 40,000 gold marks. The small church was initially intended as a temporary measure for a maximum of ten years. However, the construction of the Christ Church took significantly longer than planned.

Master builder Gotthard Wilhelm Ehmig created the rectangular church building from the demolition of a barn that had previously been there. The consecration took place on September 17, 1899.

With the installation of the gallery in 1902/03, the number of seats could be increased. An expansion planned for 1916 did not materialize. Since the Christ Church was completed in 1937, the Adelberg Church has been used by the Old Catholic Community . Between 1960 and 1971 the Old Catholics shared the church with the Protestant community. In 1973/74 it became the property of KWR.
