Alton Redd

Alton C. Redd (born October 1, 1904 in Louisiana , † June 7, 1979 in Los Angeles ) was an American musician (drums, vocals) of traditional jazz .

Alton Redd worked from the 1940s in Los Angeles, mainly with Kid Ory's Creole Jazz Band, with whom he also toured in Europe. In 1946 he had the opportunity to record four tracks under his own name for the local label Bel-Tone; Snooky Young , Tom Davis, Harold Morrow, Joe Lewis, Edgar Mason and Henry Tucker Green played in his band, the Low Down Blues Orchestra . In 1965 he also played with Keith Smith and the New Orleans Jazz Band. In the field of jazz he was involved in 17 recording sessions between 1944 and 1970, most recently at Louis Armstrong's concert in the Shrine Auditorium . Redd was the father of jazz musician Vi Redd .
