Elvira "Vi" Redd , married Elvira Redd Goldberg , (born September 20, 1928 in Los Angeles ) is an American jazz singer and saxophonist (alto and tenor).

Vi Redd is the daughter of New Orleans jazz drummer and singer Alton Redd , who strongly influenced her early in her musical career. Another important mentor was her great-aunt Alma Hightower , who also organized a band in high school that included Melba Liston . She performed on the Central Avenue jazz scene in Los Angeles. From 1954 to 1956 she played as a professional musician with Dick Hart among others . After working as a music teacher from 1957-60, she returned to the music scene, giving concerts in Las Vegas in 1962 at the Jazz Festival, and in 1964 with Earl Hines . In the mid-1960s, she and her husband, drummer Richie Goldberg, led their own band, a quartet, in San Francisco ; she also worked with Max Roach . During this time she toured Japan, London (where she had a ten-week engagement at Ronnie Scott's ), Sweden, Spain and Paris. Redd recorded two albums under his own name, Bird Call for Solid State / United Artists (1962) with Russ Freeman , Leroy Vinnegar , Bob Whitlock , Herb Ellis , Carmell Jones , Roy Ayers , and Lady Soul on the Atco label (1963), with musicians like Bill Perkins , Barney Kessel , Dick Hyman , Bucky Pizzarelli , Ben Tucker and Dave Bailey . Leonard Feather contributed the lyrics and wrote the liner notes . She has also performed with the Count Basie Orchestra , Rahsaan Roland Kirk , Linda Hopkins and Marian McPartland ; In 1970 she recorded with Gene Ammons / Dexter Gordon .

In 1969 she returned to Los Angeles, where she subsequently performed locally, otherwise worked as a music teacher after graduating from California State University, Los Angeles and the University of Southern California .
