Altona Meadows is a suburb of Melbourne in Australia , 17 km southwest of Melbourne city center. Its local government area is Hobsons Bay . The 2016 census found a population of 19,160.

Part of the Cheetham Wetlands , a nature park with many paved paths between the lagoons, is in the area of ​​Altona Meadows. The wetland attracts many migratory birds, making it an attractive hiking and bird watching area.

Altona Meadows belongs to the federal constituency of Gellibrand (which is currently held by Nicola Roxon ) and to the state constituency of Altona , as well as the district constituency of Hobsons Bay .

Like other typical working-class western suburbs of Melbourne, Altona Meadows is a safe stronghold of the ALP . However, since many new houses were built in the Howard era and the middle class has increasingly established themselves there, the constituency has shown a greater than usual swing in the direction of liberal politics, even if by and large it voted solidly for the ALP.
