Alvares

Alvares is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Góis . It has 812 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

A city charter ( Foral ) granted in the 12th century was renewed by King Manuel I in 1514, and sealed with the construction of the stake ( Pelourinho ). Since then, Alvares was the seat of an independent district until it was integrated into the district of Góis with the administrative reform of 1855.

Culture and sights

With the Museu-Casa do Ferreiro (German: Museum House of the Blacksmith) there is a local museum in the house of the last blacksmith in the village.

Various churches are listed, as are the rock paintings of Pedra Letreira .

In the almost untouched nature, watercourses, small waterfalls and wooded hills can be explored on hikes. Created river pools offer bathing opportunities.
