Alwin Stotz (born February 2, 1819 in Breslau , † February 15, 1870 in Augsburg ) was a German theater actor and director .

Life

He began his work as an actor at the City Theater in Breslau , where he took on temporary roles in comic roles and as an outdoorsman in the 1840s and was a regular actor from 1850 to 1855. At the world premiere of Gustav Freytag's play Die Journalisten on December 8, 1852 in Breslau, he took on the role of Schmock , with which he achieved an almost irresistibly comical effect.

He worked in the court theater in Coburg-Gotha from 1855 to 1867 and played the role of Pätzold in the farce with song and dance Der Dachdecker by Louis Angely and the role of Adam in the comic opera Der Dorfbarbier by Johann Baptist Schenk . He was a welcome comedian , widely popular, and Stotz died in Augsburg in 1870, where he had been active as a director for drama and farce at the city ​​theater since 1868 .

His brother was the actor Heinrich Otto Stotz .
