Amédée Borrel
Amédée Borrel (born August 1, 1867 in Cazouls-lès-Béziers , † September 15, 1936 in Strasbourg ) was a French medic and bacteriologist .
Borrel studied natural sciences at the University of Montpellier and received his doctorate there in 1890. He then went to Ilya Ilyich Metschnikow at the Pasteur Institute in Paris . There he was engaged in research on tuberculosis and the search for a vaccine against the plague. In 1919 he took over a chair in bacteriology at the University of Strasbourg .
Among other things, he investigated animal diseases caused by bacteria, as well as transmission mechanisms and therapeutic options for viral cancers. The Borrelia are named after him.
