Amalberga from Maubeuge

Amalberga von Maubeuge (also: Amalberga von Binche , Amalberga von Lobbes , Amalberge or Amelia ; * around 600, † around 690 ) was Duchess of Lorraine and later a holy nun .

It should not be confused with Amalberga von Gent or Amalberga von Susteren .

Life and family

Amalberga von Maubeuge was married to Witgerus, Duke of Lorraine and Count of Brabant (probably a fictional character, inspired by Count Palatine Wigerich ). Witger later became a monk, Amalberga became a nun together with their two daughters in the Maubeuge Benedictine convent . Her children Gudila / Gudula von Moorsel - Brussels - Eibingen , Reineldis / Reinelda von Saintes and Emebertus (Ablebertus) von Cambrai, Bishop of Cambrai-Arras († beginning of the 8th century) are venerated as saints. Gudula, in turn, is considered to be the godchild of St. Gertrud von Nivelles , daughter of Pippin the Elder.

Commemoration

Amalberga's bones were later transferred to Lobbes Abbey in Hainaut . Her feast day is July 10th.
