Peter Feistritzer

Peter Josef Mathias Feistritzer (born April 3, 1901 in Goderschach , Carinthia , † June 6, 1947 in Hermagor ) was a Carinthian politician of the NSDAP . He was an illegal Gauleiter of Carinthia during the corporate state and a member of the Reichstag .

Life

Feistritzer first attended the elementary and the town school and then a teacher training institute. From March to October 1919 he was in the Carinthian Freikorps and from 1920 to 1934 he worked as a teacher in Afritz and Hermagor . On December 1, 1930, he joined the NSDAP . In 1931 and 1932 he was first local group leader, then until 1936 district leader in Hermagor. Because of his Nazi activities, he was imprisoned for five days in May 1933 and placed under house arrest the following February. In May 1934 he was sentenced to a fine of 100 shillings and eight days' arrest. He was placed under police arrest on June 2, 1934 and detained again in July. At the same time he was fired from teaching. He was released from prison on October 24, 1934. In January 1936 he was appointed to the Carinthian Gauleitung of the still illegal NSDAP and was therefore taken into custody on March 10, 1936 for high treason . In July 1936 he received an amnesty and was released. In October 1936 he became Gauleiter in Carinthia and remained so until February 20, 1938. From December 12, 1936 to February 18, 1937, Feistritzer was wanted by the Austrian police and arrested in September for illegally crossing the border near Zennersdorf.

In March 1938 he became city councilor in Villach and at the same time head of the Gaupropaganda distribution office. He remained in this position until June 30, 1938 and then returned to the school service, where he was school councilor in Villach until 1945. In April 1938 he was unsuccessfully proposed for the Reichstag . From July 1938 to 1945 he was also the district manager of the office for educators of the Villach district. From 1939 he took part in the war as a volunteer and joined the SS on September 21, 1940 . In February 1942 he became a member of the Reichstag when he replaced the fallen MP Karl Paul Gebhardt . On April 20, 1942 he became SS-Untersturmführer and as such worked as an honorary SS leader in the Reich Security Main Office. On September 1, 1942, he was promoted to SS-Obersturmführer . After the war ended, he lived near his hometown, where he died in 1947.
